Last day in Palermo

We’ve had some nice meals in Palermo, but nothing really special. Mostly street food and small trattorias which is quite good and very reasonably priced.

But Palermo also has some excellent restaurants. We tried to eat in one of the recommended restaurants yesterday, but it was closed. We took a chance and tried again today. Success!

Lunch on the patio

No food pictures – I try to avoid them – but I can assure you that it was excellent. Just what we were looking for. But then we needed to go for a long walk to work off the calories. We could have bought a drink on the street and sipped while we walked, but we decided that would be a very bad idea.

Street vendor

We are starting to know our way around the immediate area, but we keep seeing details for the first time. Like this…

And then, just a few blocks from our place, we saw this. Missed it every other time we’ve walked past it.

What is this???

We had to explore, and discovered it is a very large performing arts theatre.

Teatro Massimo di Palermo

If you zoom in, you can see grass growing from the edge of the roof.

Nature always finds a way

And another sculpture we drove past on our way into the city. It is on a tiny side street.

And finally, a cat sleeping on a car roof in the sun.

Cat on a warm tin roof???

Tomorrow we schlep our luggage to the car because that is easier than trying to drive the car to our apartment. Then we get to navigate our way out of the city. Wish us luck!
