Almost Prehistoric

Back to more pictures from Mexico today. On our November visit we noticed a really interesting tree, that looked almost like a fern – a bit like what I imagine you might have seen in a prehistoric swamp. I’ll post a few photos for you to see. I’d love to know what the name of the tree is, if anyone is familiar with it.

Here is a closeup of the leaves.

… and the flowers.

It had giant, foot-long seed pods.

And here is one final shot, putting it all together.

Let me know if you have any idea what kind of tree this is.

I’m not sure , but I think it’s a fire tree. Near our house in the Philippines, there’s a tree that looks like that.

I’m now sure it’s a fire or flame tree. I googled fire tree, and yes, it’s exactly the same.

  3. That’s it alright. Thanks for the info.

  4. That’s it. It looks like it is the Royal Poinciana tree, but also known as the Fire or Flame tree. Thanks for the pointer.
