… just the way we like it. We settled into our apartment yesterday, and today we decided to take it slow and just get a feel for the city … after a quiet morning with a latte from the local coffee shop, of course. We booked a Douro Valley tour for Monday (7:40 AM start – gasp – we are NOT morning people!) so we decided it would be a good idea to check out where the tour starts. If we get up for a 7:40 AM start, we damn well don’t want to miss the pickup. We also booked a walking tour of three port houses for tomorrow, so we checked out the starting point for that too. Fortunately, that one starts at 3:00 PM. Along the way, we were treated to Porto architecture.

I know that I said Lisbon was hilly, but it has nothing on Porto. The good news is that you can see layers of architecture and buildings everywhere – and you get lots of exercise too.

Most of the tiles are flat, but some are textured – 3D, you could say. And many of the buildings have sculptures as well.

This next picture gives you an idea of just how hilly the city is. And in case you are wondering, no, we didn’t climb up there. But we probably will before we leave.

We were walking along the river late this afternoon and were treated to another sunset. Note the sign for Grahams port.

It rained last night, and the forecast called for more showers today, but they never materialized, and by evening the sky was clear. Fortunately we avoided the weather that has caused such problems for Spain.

I opened this post with a picture of these buildings from a different elevation and different time of day. I love how you are treated to a constantly changing landscape in Porto.

Tomorrow it’s Port tasting – yay!
love it! Those tiles are ama ing
